Health, Fitness, and Beauty
Health, fitness, and beauty are topics on which I have recently spent quite a bit of time thinking. It probably has to do with my current season of life more than anything. As a nurse, health has always been a focus for me. Fitness and beauty would have been more in my periphery. But changes in my health were a wake up call, and searching for some answers led me to discover some valuable ways of thinking and looking at health, fitness, and beauty as more of a group rather than separate topics. Actually, looking at our lives holistically, most things are intertwined. Our inside (inner) and our outside (external) are joined. Both are expressions of who we are and one affects the other.
When a woman is raising a family, sometimes working outside the home, and trying to keep up with what is typically a very busy schedule, she is often the last one on the list of to-do’s. I’ve certainly been there. With an empty nest, I’ve discovered I have time to explore and discover new things. It’s actually been an exciting time because there is a plethora of things now targeted for women over 50. It’s been a good journey to re-develop skills or interests that there simply wasn’t time for in the past. I’ve enjoyed exploring more on nutrition, exercise, skincare, and even fashion. Plus, there is often more available economically than there used to be when the house was full of growing children.
Sasha is in a different place in life than I am, so her focus is not quite the same when it comes to these topics. She loves to advise and encourage me in my efforts and I in hers. Hopefully it will be helpful that we come at these things with diverse perspectives because of our age, and also life experience. She has had to focus on health in a different way since she has dealt with a chronic condition that can affect her health. I am now entering an age where the body is definitely not as young as it used to be. It’s required making changes in order to accommodate the “new normal.” But we would both say we are enjoying this part of life. And we hope we can encourage others to feel the same.
