Seasons of Life
As I sit on my porch this morning taking in the sounds and view of the lake, I am thankful to be in this season of life. It is a fairly new season. I’ve always enjoyed time spent at a lake. It has a certain relaxed feel to it and combines things I’ve always loved: nature, water, water sports, good food, good company. But now a particular spot on a lake is our own; and my husband and I are thoroughly enjoying it, and watching others enjoy it too. We frequently say to each other how thankful to God we are for all of the good things with which we are blessed. Life ebbs and flows, like the lake in front of me, which is a part of a bigger Alabama river. One main thing I’ve learned over the years is to invest in the time you’re in, right where you are. It eventually flows by too.
Right now my nest is empty. But this has truly been a wonderful time of marriage. It’s a new season we’re enjoying. Our children are thriving in their own lives and we’re loving the addition of grandchildren–two granddaughters so far with one more on the way.
I’ve recently retired from my role as a nurse that gave much fulfillment. Since my very first job out of nursing school in labor and delivery, my nursing career has been spent helping moms and babies. I very briefly worked in a dermatology office that specialized in skin cancers and I found that very interesting. But my heart has been with new families–not just helping facilitate a safe delivery for a mom and baby, but also trying to promote and support this new little family unit going forward. It’s an amazing and vital season of life.
Sasha is about to enter that season herself. She and her husband are expecting their first child in a few months and are delightfully preparing their nest for this arrival. Her life is lived primarily in the open plains of South Dakota. She is enjoying the role as a farmer’s wife and has fully embraced all of the experiences that has brought.
It’s been quite a journey for her: Ukraine, to Alabama, to South Dakota. She generally approaches life with open arms to a new adventure–and quite the adventure it’s been!
We believe God has given each of us a unique story. We look forward to sharing in life’s journey together–in all of it’s varied seasons.
