The Arrival of Abygail Kate: Another Interview with Sasha
Lauri: So the last time we posted it was an interview about your thoughts on the upcoming delivery of your baby girl. And now it’s a few weeks later and she is here. You had some unexpected challenges before your delivery. Would you share what they were?
Sasha: Sure. About 11 days before I delivered and just a few days before my actual due date I was diagnosed with COVID. I was running a fever, had congestion, cough, ached all over and no energy. It caused some concern because of the pregnancy and my immune system taking a hit so I went to the hospital three days in a row to receive the IV medication Remdezivir. Thankfully it really helped. We also knew the baby and I would have to be in isolation if I delivered any time in the following ten days after diagnosis with COVID. In the end, labor had to be induced because the baby went a week overdue…but no isolation was required by that time, and I felt so much better too.
Lauri: How did your delivery go?
Sasha: I think it went pretty good. I hear of much worse. It is amazing to me the love I felt building the closer I got to delivering her. We were expecting a baby that wasn’t that big since I didn’t look that big, but she surprised us by weighing 8# 12 oz. and being 21 inches long! I have no idea how she fit inside. It’s all truly amazing.
Lauri: How is new motherhood going?
Sasha: I’m loving it! As I think about the miracle of birth and having this little person that I love so much it gives me a better idea of how much God loves us. Dalton and I are just so thankful for a healthy baby and that God brought her safely into this world.
Lauri: I can affirm that you have totally embraced the role of mothering your daughter. It seems to come pretty natural for you.
Sasha: It has been a special thing. Motherhood is a different kind of love than anything else. Loving my husband, loving my parents and family, those are all a special love too, and this is different altogether. Isn’t God amazing to give us all of these ways to love?
Lauri: Do you have any cute stories so far?
Sasha: It’s been fun to see Dalton with his little girl. He had never changed a diaper before and thought he would have trouble with it, but she won him over and now he does it without a thought. I just think things like that are so cool and I’ve liked watching Dalton being a dad and trying his best to take care of her. We are usually up for more than we think. Our first night home Abygail decided to keep us up all night, but thankfully has done better since then. She also seems to be all girl and likes her bath and getting lotioned and cleaned–she takes after her mom in that. We are also thankful for our babushka (Russian for grandmother) being here to take care of me when I had COVID and also after the baby came. I have to get that in Mom, even though I know you want to be called Grandma, not Babushka! I think it’s hilarious!
Lauri: And I think you’re precious! Along with your darling baby girl! Your dad and I are so proud of you all and are blessed beyond measure to have you as our daughter and Abygail as our granddaughter…even if I have to redirect Abygail if she takes up her mom’s joke of calling me Babushka!
