Sasha's Hope

What Is Sasha’s Hope?

About ten years ago my husband and I established an organization underneath the non-profit Fixed Point Foundation called Sasha’s Hope. Those who know the story my husband wrote in his book The Grace Effect will understand why we named it that. It is for Sasha, our precious daughter, who was abandoned at birth in a hospital in Ukraine, which resulted in the first ten years of her life being lived in an Ukrainian orphanage. Sasha was adopted into our family in 2009. She has a remarkable story. The beginning is told in The Grace Effect, but as time continues there is much more to tell, especially as Sasha has gained a voice to speak and a willingness to do so. She is the first to say that God’s faithfulness in her life is the key to her story.

Since the formation of Sasha’s Hope, several mission trips to orphanages in Eastern Europe have been undertaken and there has also been a collaborative effort made with anti-trafficking ministries. Very sadly, there is an inescapable link between the plight of children in orphanages and trafficking. These children seldom have real protection or care for their welfare, so they are prime targets for traffickers. If they disappear, often no one looks for them, and too often those to whom their care has been entrusted are motivated by greed. Everyone knows there is money in trafficking. The evil of human slavery has always been around, and continues to be so.

The hope part of Sasha’s Hope is essential and named in one word: Jesus. He is Sasha’s hope and mine, and also anyone else who places their trust in Him. Jesus crosses all barriers- economic, racial, social, everything. It is the wondrous message we have to proclaim to the world and it is a special joy to proclaim to orphaned children who don’t know how dearly they are loved by their Heavenly Father.
